Sis, pray for me please…. I volunteered to bake a caramel cake for Thanksgiving dinner. Since I’m not a baker, I really, really don’t know what I was thinking. My cousin shared a recipe on Facebook and I thought, ‘Hey, that looks easy, I can do that!” But now reality has set in and I’m getting a little nervous. I’ll let you know how it goes…..
Caramel cake aside, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love this day because this is a time set aside to get together with family and friends without the pressure of exchanging gifts. A day chock full of delicious food, great conversation, football, AND a good movie — Heck, who could ask for more? While trends may come and go, gratitude is a sure thing that will never go out of style. I believe the happiest people on earth are those who choose to live uncluttered and express gratitude for even the simplest of life’s treasures — a beautiful sunset, a warm summer breeze, a walk through the park, or my favorite – a bike ride along the beach.
What are you thankful for?
A couple years ago, I started this exercise of saying aloud 10 things I was thankful for each morning before getting out of bed. Let me tell you, that was the most productive year I had experienced in a long time. I believe we shift the atmosphere when we give thanks and show gratitude for what may seem mundane or small to others. One of my pastors always says, “The thing you’re complaining about is the very thing someone else is praying to receive.”
You may not think so, but it’s true. I’m a witness. There have been times when I’ve lost sight of this truth and forgotten how blessed I truly am. While going through my wilderness, there were a lot of things I had to do without. For a time, I was without a car, a job and even separated from my closest friends. It was tough terrain, but I learned a lot about me in the process. One thing I’ve learned is to ALWAYS give thanks. While trends may come and go, gratitude is a sure thing that will never go out of style. It looks good on everyone.
I pray your Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of fellowship with family and friends.
