I was driving down the freeway the other day when a flock of birds caught my attention. They were perched atop a power line that spanned several feet. Immediately, I thought of the scripture found in Matthew 6:26. It reads,“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more of value than they?”
Beloved, are you not more of value than they? Of course you are! Why then do we worry so much? Some worry about past mistakes. Many worry about the future. I suspect it’s because we have to determine in our hearts and minds that we will release our cares to God. We have to work towards making this a daily practice – no matter the challenges we may face. It’s easier said than done. I know.
I recall years ago when I was preparing to relocate from Michigan to Southern California. I was busy searching for a new place to live without really knowing much about California at that time. I quickly became frustrated with my online search. A spirit of worry began to take over. ‘What if I choose an area I end up disliking?’ ‘What if I can’t afford the rent?’ These thoughts and others started flooding my mind. ‘What if…. What if…..’
Finally, one night before going to bed in frustration, I prayed a simple prayer.‘God, I need your help. You’ll have to figure this out because I don’t know.’
I know in my heart that I had TRULY released the matter to God. I could feel a difference physically. It felt like a major weight had been lifted from my body. Have you had that experience too? You just know, that you know, you’ve truly given the matter to God. You aren’t still tinkering with it. Yep, you’ve released it.
Well, a few days later a relocation counselor that had been assigned to me called and guided me through the process of finding a new place. This was a benefit that came along with my relocation package. This little perk had been in the works all the time, but I didn’t know it. Whew! If I had only trusted God from the beginning!
I’ll admit, I was embarrassed that I had failed in this area, and wrongfully presumed that I had to figure out everything on my own. If I had only been willing to trust and turn the matter over to God from the beginning,I would have spared myself a lot of frustration and sleepless nights.
Don’t let the spirit of worry claim ground that doesn’t rightfully belong to him. Child of God, you deserve peace! (And a good night sleep!)
I believe this message is for someone today. I pray it blesses you and reminds you that God can be trusted. Give the matter over to Him. Do not worry. Do not worry about your past. Do not worry about your future. Take hold of God’s Word, and trust Him. He has your best interest in mind. Always.
Meditate on this: “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more of value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? — Matthew 6:26-27
